“Same shop as Landry’s, still easy to deal with. Inspection was in and out.”

From Cumberland, take Mendon Road to Main Street — about six minutes over the Blackstone. Two miles, not a project. Close enough that the 30-day inspection retest is still “come back here.”
2.2 miles · About six minutes over the Blackstone
From Cumberland, the honest route is Mendon Road toward Albion, then Main Street — you come over the Blackstone and you are in the mill village. About six minutes in ordinary traffic, a hair more if you catch a school bus. From Diamond Hill and the north side of town, come down toward Mendon rather than looping 295 to a chain shop on a commercial strip. From Nate Whipple Highway / the 295 ramps, you can be at 117 Main Street faster than you can sit through a dealer write-up. From Cumberland High and the residential streets off Diamond Hill Road, it is a single river crossing, not a county line odyssey. Two-point-two miles. That is the whole geography argument.
Cumberland drivers bring commuter cars that already did I-295 and 146 before breakfast, and they bring the inspection that is due because Rhode Island will ticket an expired sticker. They also bring the “I failed somewhere else” problem, which we have to be honest about: the free retest is only at the station that did the original test. If that was not us, we can still fix the car; we cannot reprint their free sticker. Start the inspection here if you live in Cumberland. People also bring brakes that started on the hill, batteries that died on a cold morning in the driveway, and tires that ate the inside edge because the last alignment was skipped.
Cumberland is its own town. It is not Lincoln, and it is not Woonsocket, and the six-minute drive to Albion is why this page exists instead of a duplicate of the homepage with the word Cumberland swapped in. You can see the river. You can see the mill village on the other side. Battersby’s Main Street Garage — formerly Landry’s — is the shop on that street. Phone (401) 333-1536. Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. No Saturday. If you need same-day, call before you leave Diamond Hill, not after you are already in a different waiting room.
The inspection rule is the part that is worth a paragraph of its own for Cumberland. Rhode Island wants the car every 24 months. The sticker is $55 until the 2027 increase. Fail, and you have 30 days to come back for free — but only to the station that failed you. If you live in Cumberland and you choose a station in another valley because an ad said “cheapest sticker,” you have also chosen where you will spend the Saturday after a fail. Six minutes back to Main Street is a different life than a second trip to a place you cannot pronounce on the phone. Use the sticker checker, book the inspection here, and keep the retest in the same bay.
Chris’s note on the reviews page is the Cumberland version: same shop as Landry’s, still easy to deal with, inspection in and out. That is the bar. We are not going to invent a downtown Cumberland storefront that does not exist. We are going to tell you the drive is short, the river is the landmark, and the work is the same honest list we give Albion and Lincoln. Oil, brakes, diagnostics, tires, the electrical no-start, the alignment you need after the last frost heave on Mendon.
If the car is not safe to take over the river, call. We will tell you whether it should be towed or whether it will make six minutes. Do not “see if it stops making the noise” on 295. Send the year, make, and model through the request form if you want a call back during hours. Bring it if you can. Either way, you are not driving to Warwick for a neighborhood problem.
